New technology is being trialled in NSW to detect water leaks in schools, TAFEs, hospitals, and public housing, with the aim of saving millions of litres of water.

The artificial intelligence system analyses data from smart meters to identify leaks, sending alerts to site managers and allowing them to take action. Jethro Laidlaw, who manages the water efficiency programs for the government, said this could save 2,700 megalitres of water every year.
