Ten people have been injured, two critically, after a car collided with a crowd of Newcastle Knights supporters in Wallsend on Saturday morning.

A five-year-old girl and a 67-year-old man remain in critical condition at John Hunter Hospital, with the other eight injured people suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Community in Shock

The incident occurred about 9:30am on the Newcastle Link Road, as fans waited for the Knights' team bus to pass them. Witnesses reported that the driver of a BMW convertible had been revving the engine before allegedly losing control and crashing into the group.

The 18-year-old driver, who was on a green P-plate, was arrested at the scene. NSW Police Assistant Commissioner David Waddell said charges would likely be laid later on Saturday.
