The criminal trial of veteran radio broadcaster Alan Jones has heard pivotal testimony from the brother of one of his accusers, who told the New South Wales Local Court that he never witnessed any inappropriate conduct from the high-profile media figure.

A Sudden Revelation After Arrest

Taking the stand, the witness—the brother of a former youth athlete known legally as "Complainant J"—recalled how he only learned of the alleged abuse after seeing news of Jones's arrest in the media. Shortly after the public arrest, the witness met his brother at a local fast-food restaurant, where the truth was reportedly laid bare.

"He said to me, in relation to the defendant, 'This is the hardest thing I've ever had to tell you,'" the witness told the court. According to his testimony, his brother confessed: "You've probably seen the news about the defendant. I'm one of the people who've come forward."

Details of the Allegations and Financial Ties

During their conversation at the restaurant, the witness questioned his brother about what had allegedly transpired. He testified that Complainant J described inappropriate touching and kissing, though he noted the broadcaster did not attempt further sexual acts.

When asked why he had kept silent for so long, Complainant J reportedly explained that he did not want the financial assistance and career support from Jones to cease. The court previously heard that the broadcaster had gifted Complainant J a mobile phone, a vehicle, and provided weekly cash payments to support his promising sports career.

Defense Points to 'Concocted' Claims

Defense lawyers representing the 85-year-old former talkback host have aggressively challenged Complainant J’s credibility, accusing him of "concocting" his allegations based on mainstream media reports about Jones.

Jones has strongly maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to 20 counts of assault with an act of indecency and two counts of sexual touching. The charges relate to six alleged victims over a period spanning from 2003 to 2020.

Generosity Under the Spotlight

The brother's testimony also shed light on the close relationship their family shared with Jones during the early 2000s. He recounted visiting Jones's Macquarie Street apartment and his radio studios, as well as a single visit to Jones's Fitzroy Falls farmstay—noting this occurred on a different occasion to the trip where the alleged assault took place.

Furthermore, the court heard of Jones's generosity extending to the witness himself. Jones reportedly offered to assist the brother with buying an engagement ring for his now-wife and later gifted the couple a luxury dinner set as a wedding present.

Despite this close contact, the brother maintained under questioning from Crown prosecutor Georgina Wright SC that he never saw the defendant act inappropriately toward his sibling. The trial continues to examine the decades-old allegations against the veteran broadcaster in Sydney.
