A 32-year-old man has been taken into custody as part of an investigation into a gunman who sparked a lockdown in Sydney's inner west.

NSW Police were called to a car park in Dulwich Hill about 10:20am on Friday after reports of a stolen vehicle. Officers were told a man was armed with a firearm inside the reported stolen vehicle before allegedly setting fire to it.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire with no injuries reported. The man left the scene on foot, sending the area into lockdown. Smoke from the vehicle fire could be seen from the street.

Police established a crime scene and began a search for the gunman. Strike Force Ranilo was established to investigate the incident.

On Sunday night, the 32-year-old man was arrested in Burwood after allegedly attempting to evade police. Paramedics treated the man for a minor injury sustained during the arrest, before he was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment under police guard.

He was then taken to Newtown Police Station for questioning, which is ongoing.
