No respite from heat and boredom as Walgett faces summer without a pool
Walgett's pool closure leaves residents without relief from the heat and boredom. The town's pool has been closed due to safety concerns, with the council citing a lack of funds to repair or replace it.
As the weather heats up, residents of inland Australia are looking forward to flocking to their local pool for the start of the swimming season. However, with a scorching summer looming, residents of Walgett in western New South Wales will not be taking part in the seasonal ritual.
The town's pool will remain closed this season after it was deemed unsafe and beyond repair. Walgett Shire Council says building a new pool is simply beyond the capacity of a small rural council to fund alone.
This leaves few options for cooling off for Walgett parents like Katrina Marshall and her two boys aged 17 and 14.
