Prominent Athlete Testifies Against Alan Jones in Sydney Trial

A prominent athlete has given evidence in a trial in Sydney, alleging that veteran broadcaster Alan Jones kissed him without consent at a public event in 2015 and later sent him a text message saying he wanted to kiss him all night.

The man, known as Complainant M, told the NSW Local Court that he was left in "disbelief" after the kiss, which he said lasted about two seconds and was "out of character" because it was not on the cheek and was in public.

"I recall thinking like, 'the f**k' just kind of happened, like why would someone do that here, why would he do that here?"

Complainant M said he froze at the time and was in disbelief about what was happening. He said he did not respond to the kiss and quickly left the event.

He later received a text message from Mr. Jones saying,

"I would like to be kissing you all night"

The athlete said he was apprehensive about responding to the message and wanted Mr. Jones to "go away," so he sent a neutral response.

Athlete 'uncomfortable' with on-air praise

Earlier in his evidence, Complainant M said he first met Mr. Jones at a sporting venue in the 2000s and was interviewed by him over the phone.

He told the court that he felt "uncomfortable" with the glowing praise Mr. Jones gave him on-air, saying it was

"usually, very, very positive, always incredibly overwhelming in some ways complementary, the introduction of myself"

The complainant also told the court that he visited Mr. Jones at his Circular Quay apartment on several occasions, where Mr. Jones would greet him with open arms and kiss him on the cheek.

Allegations of further incidents

Complainant M alleged that on another occasion, at Mr. Jones's Circular Quay apartment, Mr. Jones kissed him and pressed his genitalia against him.

"The defendant had begun kissing me from my cheek, the kisses were getting closer to my mouth at the same time as kissing me he was saying things like 'I love you so much, you don't know how much I love you',"

He said he pushed Mr. Jones away when the broadcaster's lips touched the side of his mouth and that he did not consent to the incident.

Mr. Jones has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
