Eels NRL Star Josh Addo-Carr Faces Investigation Over Alleged Cocaine Test

Eels NRL star Josh Addo-Carr is facing an investigation by police after allegedly returning a positive test for cocaine.

According to police, Addo-Carr was stopped for a random test while driving in Sydney's inner-west along Enmore Road on Saturday night. He was subjected to a roadside breath test for alcohol, which returned a negative result. However, a preliminary drug wipe allegedly returned a positive indication for cocaine.

An oral fluid sample was obtained from Addo-Carr and sent for further analysis. The investigation is ongoing, as police await the results of the forensic analysis.

The Parramatta Eels have released a statement noting they are aware of the alleged incident involving Addo-Carr. "The club has notified the NRL Integrity unit and is cooperating with the appropriate processes, as well as providing welfare support to Josh and his family," the statement read.

The Eels said they would not be commenting further until the matter is finalised.

This is not the first time Addo-Carr has faced issues with a roadside drug test. In 2024, he was sacked from his previous club, the Canterbury Bulldogs, after failing a roadside drug test.

Addo-Carr has had a successful career, playing for the Australian national side, the Kangaroos, and New South Wales. He has scored more than 150 tries and won two premierships with the Melbourne Storm.

The alleged positive test could affect Addo-Carr's chances of being selected for Australia for next month's World Cup. Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters said Addo-Carr could face consequences if the allegation is verified.

"I had a lot to do with Josh last year on the Kangaroo tour," Walters told Fox League. "He's a great team player, had a good series, but this may have some ramifications around that as well."
