A 16-year-old girl is in a critical but stable condition after being struck by an e-bike at Barrack Heights, south of Wollongong.

Police have arrested a 35-year-old male e-bike rider who allegedly tested positive for alcohol and drugs following the collision on Shellharbour Road, near Sunset Avenue, at about 10:50pm on Sunday.

Investigation Underway

Ambulance crews treated the teenager at the scene before she was flown to St George Hospital in Sydney. Police are investigating reports a second e-bike was in the area at the time and left without stopping to help.

The 35-year-old male e-bike rider who remained at the scene was given a breath test, which allegedly returned a positive reading. He was arrested and taken to Oak Flats Police Station, where it will be alleged he underwent a second breath test that returned a reading of 0.135.

Police also say he returned a positive result to cocaine and methylamphetamine. The samples will undergo further analysis.

Call for Witnesses

Crash investigators examined the scene and seized the man's e-bike for forensic testing. No charges have been laid at this stage. Police would like to speak with the second e-bike rider who left the scene and are urging the person to contact police.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information about the incident or who has any relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact Oak Flats Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
